Meet ‘GEE TEEI”

GTI is a car that makes me smile.

He showed me that I could drive again after a car accident. Gave me my confidence back to go behind the wheel.

I didn’t want a plain white car but he was constantly drawing me back after seeing him on the Showroom floor.

The first time looking through the windows, he glisten & I thought I could never have that. GTI was out of my league.

A friend suggested to go for a test drive. Due to the accident, I couldn’t drive yet, so I was a passenger. It was on this test drive, I wanted this dream.

The difficulty was now to overcome the affordability, to be cleared medically to drive & the plain white colour.

Things happen for a reason and one by one, the issues were being solved. That friend who suggested to go for a test drive, also gave the idea of colour wrapping.

I wanted to honour the GTI badging. The red & black highlights to show colour. The wrapping has made it striking as well as glistening, like the first time I saw him.

That friend ended up being my boyfriend who also makes me smile. A partner that shares with me the love of cars.

What we have been up to!

Easter was the perfect time to share some love.

We had some fantastic supporters that donated craft items and $$$ to purchase Easter Cheer for the families of sick kids staying at Ronald McDonald House Townsville.

A wonderful $400 of products were donated.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Crew,raising funds for our club and charity.

About Us

Tropical Air was created back in 2007 in Townsville when 2 like minded people found each other in the carpark of a spare parts outlet, from there myself and Jon would start the huge journey to get more people like ourselves together to talk and help others with air-cooled vehicles.

At the time Jons purple bug and my orange Rotary powered bug would drop lil business like cards on cars around the Townsville area hoping to get more people involved with meeting up and enjoying the conversation. As time went on we formed a group of people, which would once a month get together at different locations eat drink and talk all things VW, original places for meets consisted as Alligator creek, bushland beach pub, jons house for garage time, entertainment center, the dam and of cause our most attended Harvey range tea rooms . One of our founding cars still lives with the radio station there in Townsville even until today.

Moving forward to 2022, our great group of enthusiasts embarked on the journey of exploring the options of becoming an Incorporated Club. With the fantastic support of the Mt Stuart Lions club. We were able to incorporate as a specialty branch Lions Club. Specialising in the love of Dubs, this allowing us the opportunity to offer Club registrations to our members, Public Liability Insurance to cover our events and offer us the chance to help not only our members but also various charities.
